Saudi Visa
Saudi Arabia welcomes millions of visitors each year for tourism, pilgrimage, business, employment, or studies.
Nationals of GCC countries can enter without a visa. For other travelers, a visa is required to stay in the Kingdom.
Depending on the purpose of the visit, several types of visas are available, for both short- and long-term stays.
Types of Saudi Visas
Umrah Visa for Saudi Arabia
Muslims wishing to perform Umrah outside of the Hajj season can apply for an Umrah visa.
The Hajj visa remains mandatory only during the official pilgrimage season.
Note: The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah now allows Umrah to be performed with any type of visa, including tourist or visit visas.
Hajj Visa for Saudi Arabia
Muslims intending to perform the Hajj must obtain a Hajj visa, except for GCC nationals who can enter without a visa.
However, even GCC citizens must obtain a Hajj permit to participate in the pilgrimage.
Tourist Visa for Saudi Arabia
Saudi Arabia offers two types of visit visas: the family visit visa and the personal visit visa. These visas allow Saudi citizens and residents to invite relatives or friends for a short stay in the Kingdom.
-
The family visit visa is intended for close family members such as parents, in-laws, spouses, and children.
It can be issued as a single-entry visa, valid for 90 days with a stay of 30 days, extendable.
It can also be issued as a multiple-entry visa, valid for 6 months or 1 year, allowing 90-day stays per visit, non-extendable. -
The personal visit visa allows Saudi citizens to host friends or non-family contacts.
It can also be issued as a single- or multiple-entry visa, under the same conditions and durations as the family visit visa.
In all cases, an official invitation request must be submitted through the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs platform.
Work Visa for Saudi Arabia
A work visa is required for any foreign national wishing to work in Saudi Arabia. It can only be obtained with the sponsorship of a Saudi employer and requires several official documents, including an invitation letter, a work contract, a medical certificate, academic diplomas, and a security clearance.
The employer must first apply for a work permit (Iqama) on behalf of the foreign employee. Once this permit is issued, the worker can apply for a work visa, usually valid for 90 days. After arriving in the Kingdom, this visa must be converted into a residence visa to live and work legally long-term.
Visit Visa for Saudi Arabia
The visit visa allows Saudi citizens and residents to temporarily host relatives or friends. There are two types:
-
Family visit visa for parents, spouses, children, or in-laws
-
Personal visit visa for friends or non-family contacts
Each visa may be issued as:
-
A single-entry visa, valid for 90 days for a 30-day stay, extendable
-
A multiple-entry visa, valid for 6 months to 1 year, allowing 90-day stays per visit, non-extendable
An official invitation must be submitted via the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Student Visa for Saudi Arabia
The Saudi student visa allows foreign nationals to study in Saudi Arabia through an academic program. The Kingdom offers both short- and long-term study options as part of its “Study in Saudi Arabia” initiative, available to nationals of over 160 countries.
Some student visas are self-sponsored, while others require direct sponsorship by a Saudi educational institution. Prior admission to an accredited university or institute is mandatory to apply for the visa.
